Radioactive substances were illegally exported from the Chornobyl NPP in 2015-2016

7 years ago radioactive substances were illegally exported from the Chornobyl NPP. UAH 3 million were embezzled.

It was reported by the Prosecutor's General Office of Ukraine.

According to investigators, the heads of one of the private enterprises concluded a contract with the state enterprise "Chornobyl NPP" in 2015-2016.

The contract included the enterprise's responsibility to dismantle, rework and release from regulatory control the equipment and construction of the engine room of Unit 1 of the Chornobyl NPP.

This is the last step in the process of handling radioactive materials. However, after dismantling the radioactive pipes weighing 391.5 tons, the entrepreneur didn't deactivate them.

As for the document regarding the release, the private enterprise faked it.

In the end, the criminals embezzled UAH3 million of state funds.

After that, the substances, which were contaminated with ionizing radiation, were exported and handed over to third parties.

Therefore, one of the heads of the private enterprise was informed of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 5 of Art. 191, Part 3 of Art. 265 and Part 2 of Art. 366.

This is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The suspect is being prepared for a preventive measure.

As Rubryka reported, russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February. The Chornobyl NPP was captured by russian invaders on the same day.

All this time all facilities of the Chornobyl NPP and those situated in the Exclusion Zone were under the control of russian army. Before leaving, the occupiers made up the "act", stating the station was "guarded" and the administration had no claims against russian troops.

On March 31 Rubryka reported that russian troops left the Chornobyl NPP territory in the Kyiv region.
