russians destroyed the water supply system in Donbas, 4 million people left without water

The region is cut off from essential communal services.

Specialists of the Bellingcat information agency conducted a study based on satellite images from various settlements in the Donbas region. They concluded that the water supply system, which provided drinking water to 4 million people, ceased to function, "Rubryka" reports.

Due to russian aggression, the entire region is cut off from essential communal services (electricity, water supply, sewerage).

The canals and pipeline system was damaged due to months-long shelling.  Water cannot flow without the electricity needed to run pumps and filters. Power lines were cut, and power plants were bombed. As long as warfare goes on, the water issue remains critical, as repairs require demining and power restoration.

Drinking water in Ukraine is one of the key targets of the occupiers. russians are intentionally shelling treatment facilities to deprive Ukrainians of drinking water. Fighting, shelling, and damaging industrial facilities further worsen the situation by contaminating the water.

❗️To remind, damaging the infrastructure facilities and polluting water bodies are considered war crimes against the environment. It is punishable by Ukrainian and international law.
