A teen dies from deathly disease following swim in the pond
A 15-year-old boy from Brovary died in the "Okhmatdyt" medical center. He was infected with leptospirosis after swimming in the pond in the Korsun-Shevchenkivsky district in the Cherkasy region.
The course of the disease was so severe that the child's legs failed. Therefore, the doctors made an urgent decision to transport him to "Okhmatdyt" hospital. Three weeks after the first symptoms, the boy died.
According to Oksana Kolesnyk, the Acting CEO of the Brovary district branch of the Kyiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the tragedy occurred on July 17.
The pathogens of leptospirosis are infected animals, mainly small mammals. The disease is not transmitted from person to person, the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine notes.
The pathogen enters the water with the urine of infected animals. You can get leptospirosis while swimming, fishing in infected reservoirs, its development, mowing hay in wet areas, caring for sick and infected animals, etc.
