The Transcarpathian Administrative Court prohibited ski resort construction on the Svydovets mountain range

The court canceled the order of the Tyachiv and Rakhiv district state administrations regarding the approval of a detailed plan of areas for the ski resort construction on the Svydovets mountain range.

The panel of judges of the Transcarpathian District Administrative Court made the relevant decision, Zahid.net reports.

According to Olha Melen-Zabramna, the advocate of the NGO "Ecology-Rights-Human", the court so far has only announced the operative part of the solution.

"Our lawsuit has been fully satisfied. The court canceled the order of the Tyachiv and Rakhiv DSAs regarding the approval of the area for the ski resort construction on Svydovets.

We'll find out about the court's motive later when the full text of the decision will be published", Melen-Zabramna noted.

The case of building a ski resort on the Svydovets mountain range in Transcarpathia has been going on since 2017.

Plans to build a ski resort on Svydovets were known back in 2016.

The head of the Transcarpathia Regional State Administration at that time, Gennadiy Moskal, announced the agreement with the owners of "Bukovel" regarding the extension of the resort to the Transcarpathia region.

According to the announced plans, it was supposed to be a ski resort three times larger than "Bukovel".

It was planned to build:

• 60 hotels;
• 120 restaurants;
• gyms, shops, banks;
• multi-level car parking;
• a private aerodrome.

Ecologists, conservationists, and the locals, who were outraged by the plans to build a massive resort on Svydovka, stood against the construction.

Besides, environmental lawyers repeatedly stated that neither the community nor the activists were given the opportunity by the developers to properly learn the detailed plans of the areas for the resort construction.

Activists of the Free Svydovets movement also claimed that public hearings in villages near the area where the resort is planned were held with violations. Plans of the resort territory are still not available to the public.

In September 2021, the Supreme Court overturned the decision of previous instances regarding the construction of a ski resort on Svydovets and sent the case back to the Transcarpathian Circuit Administrative Court.
