Official: British Prime Minister Johnson announces his resignation
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that he has decided to step down as Prime Minister of Great Britain and leader of the Conservative Party
The politician addressed the nation on Thursday, July 7, Sky News reports.
As noted, at the same time, he will continue to perform his duties until the appointment of a new leader of the Conservative Party.
The party will appoint the new prime minister at the party conference in October.
Along with Johnson, 57 members of the ruling party are resigning.
We should note that the reason for the recent resignation of the British Prime Minister was a sex scandal.
The deputy parliamentary organizer of the ruling Conservative Party, Chris Pincher, drunkenly grabbed two men at a party in an elite London club. As a result, he repented of what he had done and resigned.
When appointing Pincher to leading party and government positions, Johnson knew that Pincher was involved in the investigation.
The BBC noted that Rubryka previously reported that Boris Johnson plans to resign.
We will remind you that on Wednesday, July 6, 16 ministers of Boris Johnson's cabinet wrote their resignations against the background of the harassment scandal.
Johnson himself fired another one.
In just two days, more than 30 government employees resigned, but the prime minister said he would not leave.
At the same time, it was emphasized that Johnson could be forced to resign amid the government crisis.
As you know, after the announcement of the vote of confidence on June 6, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has had "political immunity" for one year.
However, British political observers do not rule out that he may be forced to resign if he cannot quickly find replacements for the outgoing ministers.
What Johnson's resignation means for Ukraine
Thanks to the efforts of Boris Johnson, Great Britain became one of the most loyal partners of Ukraine in the face of a full-scale attack by russia.
The politician repeatedly publicly condemned the actions of putin's regime and expressed his support for Ukrainians in words and deeds.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have already received more than five thousand units of light anti-tank weapons from overseas, hundreds of Brimstone missiles, more than 100 armored vehicles, and many other weapons.
Boris Johnson became one of the first high-ranking officials who were not afraid to fly to Kyiv at the height of the war and walk with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, through the center of the capital.
American security expert Joseph Cirincione believes that the British government's political crisis can cause international consequences.
"At a minimum, this will weaken the West's efforts to support the Ukrainians in the war," he said in a BBC commentary.
