Kyiv and Warsaw to be connected with high-speed railway
The capitals of Ukraine and Poland are planning to connect with a high-speed railway. This project is estimated at 1.2 billion dollars.
The relevant project is introduced in the Plan for the Recovery of Ukraine, presented in Lugano, the EP writes.
The high-speed connection between Kyiv and Warsaw has been in the talks since 2019 when the Ministry of Infrastructure announced the launch of the high-speed railway route Kyiv-Lviv-Warsaw-Berlin.
At the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Infrastructure stated that thanks to the construction of the Kyiv-Warsaw Eurotrack, the travel time would take up to 4 hours. Before the full-scale invasion of the russian Federation into Ukraine, the parties jointly worked out a project implementation plan and prepared for the presentation of the project at the EU level.
Reference
Trains in Ukraine run on a "wide" track (1,520 mm), used in the territory of the former USSR countries. The same track is used by Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, as well as by Belarus. Most of the countries of the European Union (with the exception of Spain and Portugal) use the "narrow" track (1,435 mm).
