russia steals Dnipro’s water to supply the occupied Crimea

The russians released water from the Dnipro River in the Kherson region to the occupied Crimean peninsula. It has already brought about UAH 4 bln in damage to Ukraine.

It is noted that a few weeks after the capture of the Kherson region, the russians could quickly supply water to Crimea. However, according to Mykhailo Yatsuk, the director of the Institute of Water Problems and Land Reclamation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, it happened with a significant violation of technological requirements.

"They succeeded. Despite the violations and the fact that it will lead to various negative outcomes, including the destruction of the canal walls, they did it", he said.

The State environmental inspectorate of Ukraine notes that the russians are already stealing water from the canal on a large scale. The water intake reaches 50 cubic meters per second, and the damage due to its arbitrary use is about UAH 32.6 million per day.

For 125 days of full-scale war, russia has already owed approximately UAH 4 billion. At the same time, Ihor Hopchak, the deputy head of the State Water Resources Agency, says these are very approximate numbers.
