No exceptions: NATO Chief comments on Western tanks supply to Ukraine
The countries of the Alliance don't have a list of types of weapons that are excluded from deliveries to Ukraine
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said this at the end of the Alliance leaders' summit.
Stoltenberg answered questions about the possible supply of Western-style battle tanks to Ukraine.
The Secretary-General noted that NATO countries supported the idea of transferring more modern weapons, including Western ones, to Ukraine.
He said they also announced the delivery of new batches of weapons at the summit in Madrid. At the same time, Stoltenberg stressed there were no exceptions in deliveries.
"NATO now has the task of helping Ukraine transition to modern NATO-style weapons. And of course, we don't have a list of equipment we exclude from this," he said.
According to him, the NATO countries are considering a comprehensive list of NATO-style weapons, and "this is the message of this summit."
Until this time, Western countries refused to supply Western-style tanks to Ukraine.
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, said that due to fears of involvement in a war with russia, Western countries had an agreement not to provide Ukraine with certain types of weapons.
According to the media, Spain wants to supply Ukraine with German Leopard 2 main battle tanks, which requires Germany's consent.
As Rubryka reported, NATO Secretary-General Stoltenberg said on the summit's sidelines that russia's war against Ukraine resulted from a long-term trend in the Kremlin's behavior.
The russian aggression against Ukraine itself began long before February 2022 with the annexation of Crimea and russia's invasion of Donbas in 2014.
As Rubryka reported, earlier on Thursday, US President Joe Biden announced a significant strengthening of the American presence in Europe in connection with the russian threat.
We will remind you that the NATO summit in Madrid is held on June 29-30.
