Lavrov: “iron curtain” is coming down between russia and the West

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the russian federation, Sergey Lavrov, supported the opinion of the Belarusian foreign minister, Vladimir Makei, that the "iron curtain" is already falling between russia and the West.

"Concerning the Iron Curtain, I agree with Vladimir Vladimirovich (Mackay). It is almost already coming down. They (the West) should behave carefully so as not to pinch themselves. But this process has been launched," Lavrov said at a press conference in Minsk on Thursday.

He added that since 2014, relations between russia and the European Union "essentially do not exist."

"(The EU) destroyed all the mechanisms created between us and the EU over decades. I mean the summits that took place twice a year, the meetings of the russian government and the European Commission, and the common spaces used to build the four "road maps," twenty sectoral dialogues, visa-free dialogue… All this collapsed at once," Lavrov believes.

"But we are not shutting down. I will only say that from now on, we will not trust either the Americans or the EU. We will do everything necessary to not depend on them in critically important areas," added the head of the russian Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the russian federation, Sergey Lavrov, said that the European Union, together with NATO, is gathering a coalition to fight against russia.
