12 million Ukrainians have become internally displaced persons since February 24
Since February 24, more than 12 million Ukrainian citizens have been displaced in Ukraine following the full-scale invasion of the russian federation.
It was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a video chat with students and professors of leading Israeli educational and research institutions, Ukrinform reports.
"The number of internally displaced persons in our country in just four months is more than 12 million. 12 million people!" Zelensky said.
The president stressed that nowhere in Europe in the 77 years since World War II has been anything like what russia has done.
He also said that the invaders shot civilians, killed refugees on the roads, and tortured and raped people, including minors, both girls and boys, in the Ukrainian territories temporarily occupied by the russians.
In addition, he said, the russian military has set up "filtration camps" in which people are tortured.
"Thousands were killed or maimed in such camps. The occupiers deported Ukrainians to russia and scattered them to remote regions. And only a few manage to return to Ukraine through third countries," the head of state said.
