White House: The US is working to prevent countries from buying stolen Ukrainian grain

The United States is working to ensure that different countries don't buy grain from russia that could've been stolen in Ukraine

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated this in the press briefing on June 13.

When journalists asked her if the Biden administration warned some African countries from buying the grain from russia, she answered:

"We are working with other countries to prevent the sale of grain that has likely been stolen from—from Ukraine," she told a news briefing.

The press secretary also added: "When it comes to grain exports and what you're asking me about food insecurity, this is a priority for the President. He's spoken to this. You know, again, russia has been repeatedly damaging grain storage facilities in Ukraine, stealing Ukrainian grain, and actively blocking the export of food from Ukrainian ports, increasing world hunger.

russia could immediately cease its war in Ukraine, which is devastating global food security, and allow the free flow of Ukrainian food and agricultural exports."

Earlier, the American media reported that in May, the United States sent letters to 14 countries, mainly in Africa, saying that russia could try to sell stolen Ukrainian grain.

What's happening with Ukrainian grain?

On May 10, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence reported the invaders had already shipped most of the grain stolen from Ukraine to the Mediterranean.

The intelligence officers suspected the products were being transported to Syria; from there, russia would smuggle them to other countries in the Middle East.

After that, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned consumer countries that consignments of grain sold by russia might contain grain stolen from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine due to looting.

Ukraine's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reported that the aggressors stole almost half a million tons of grain from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Facts about the crimes have already come from all temporarily occupied regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv.

First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotskyi said that the russians tried to sell stolen grain in Egypt and Lebanon, but these countries refused to buy such goods.

The Head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, stressed that Ukraine was discussing ways to resolve the food crisis with its allies.

As Rubryka reported, russian invaders continued to export Ukrainian grain from the occupied territories.
