Montenegro to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine

At the suggestion of the Montenegrin Ministry of Defense, the Balkan government decided at a meeting on Thursday to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine.

"This decision reflects consistency in ensuring support for the preservation of Ukraine's integrity and sovereignty," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The agency said that from the beginning of the war in Ukraine until today, Montenegro, as a full member of NATO and EU candidate, as well as a true friend of the Ukrainian people, condemns russia's unjustified and illegal invasion into a sovereign European state.

"The military and humanitarian assistance provided by Montenegro is a testament to the selfless support of the brave Ukrainian people and their continued commitment to joint action against undemocratic principles," the Defense Ministry said.

The statement says they will soon consider the needs in cooperation with the Ukrainian side and partners to provide the necessary financial, humanitarian and military support.

As reported, the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazović, in a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed readiness to visit Kyiv.

"We hope that Ukraine will receive the EU candidate status, and Montenegro, as the leader of the negotiation process, is ready to provide the necessary expert and political assistance," Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazović told Zelensky in a telephone conversation.

Zelensky invited Abazović to visit Kyiv as soon as possible. In response, the Montenegrin prime minister expressed readiness to visit Kyiv and said he would invite other leaders of the Western Balkans to travel to Ukraine together to express support.
