The United States sends another batch of M777 howitzers to Ukrainian military

The United States has sent another batch of M777 towed howitzers as part of a military aid package to Ukraine

Rubryka reports, citing a Pentagon statement on Facebook.

"A US Marine Corps M777 howitzer is loaded onto the United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III at March Air Reserve Base, California, as part of US security assistance to Ukraine," the statement said.

The statement shows a photo of one of the howitzers loaded into the plane.

To recap:

On April 13, the administration of US President Joe Biden decided to hand over 18 155 mm howitzers and 40,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine. On April 21, in a new package of armed assistance, the US government added 72 more howitzers, 144,000 rounds of ammunition, and 72 tactical vehicles to tow them.

On May 4, the Pentagon said anonymously that 81 of the 90 M777 howitzers had already been delivered to Ukraine, CNN reported.

On May 9, almost all 155 mm M777 howitzers that the US presidential administration had decided to provide to the Armed Forces of Ukraine had already been transported to Ukraine.

Yesterday, as Rubryka reported, Norway officially confirmed that it had handed over 22 M109 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, including spare parts, ammunition, and other equipment. The artillery is already involved at the front.

The US ambassador said that Washington had already provided $1 billion in direct support to Ukraine to strengthen its economy, and another $7.5 billion will be provided later.

M777 is a field towed howitzer with 155 millimeters caliber. The maximum range of conventional shells is 24.7 km. The M777 has a digital fire control system similar to fire control systems in self-propelled artillery.

The M777 howitzer can fire high-precision M982 Excalibur projectiles with a maximum range of up to 40 km.
