EU agreed on single charger standard for all electronic devices
The European Union has agreed on a standard for a single charger connector for all gadgets. EU countries should switch to it from 2024
It was reported by the press service of the European Parliament.
Every electronics retailer in the EU will have to adjust their gadgets to a single standard. All mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, handheld videogame consoles, earbuds, digital cameras, headphones, and more will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C port. Laptops will also have to be adapted to the new requirements by 40 months after the entry into force of the single standard.
This decision should lead to more re-use of chargers and will help consumers save up to € 250 million a year on charger purchases. In addition, it can reduce the amount of household e-waste by about 11 thousand tons.
