Norway handed over 22 M109 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, including spare parts, ammunition, and other equipment

NRK reports, citing the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.

"The Ukrainian forces are dependent on Western support in the form of military equipment and weapons. So that they can withstand the russian attacks," says Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram.

As noted, back in February, the government decided to transfer to Ukraine up to 2,000 M72 anti-tank weapons. M109 artillery is a continuation of military support.

According to Gram, the way the war develops in Ukraine indicates that it's necessary to transfer heavy equipment and weapons systems.

For security reasons, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense has not previously commented on the transfer of howitzers.

Confirmation came after the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, thanked Norway for the supply of howitzers.

He also noted that weapons from Norway were already being used on the front lines.

"In terms of technical characteristics, the M109A3 howitzers have a larger caliber and more powerful ammunition than their Soviet counterparts.

The shooting range is up to 22 km. But in the future, we can use rocket-assisted projectiles that increase this distance.

Experienced gunners also note the convenience of airtight and completely identical charges, which affects the accuracy of the flight when firing. My people quickly mastered the M109A3 in one week," he wrote on Facebook.
