Ukraine urged the UN and the IAEA to find a way to liberate Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said that russia's shelling near Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant poses a threat to the world's nuclear security. It called on the UN and the IAEA to help liberate the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

"The actions of Russian nuclear terrorists at the ZNPP and in the temporarily occupied city of Enerhodar, the constant russia's shelling on the Ukrainian territory, including in the direction of this and other nuclear power plants, pose an unprecedented threat to the nuclear security in Ukraine, Europe, and the world. russia must abide by the laws and customs of war, including concerning nuclear facilities," the statement said.

The Foreign Ministry appealed to the IAEA Director and the UN Secretary General to help liberate the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

"We urge IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to redouble their efforts to find ways to liberate ZNPP from russian invaders as soon as possible. We need to return it under complete control of Ukraine, restore security at the plant and develop effective modalities for sending international experts to ZNPP. We look forward to the active position of the partner states in this regard at the forthcoming meetings of the Board of Governors and the IAEA General Conference, " the Foreign Ministry stated.

The Ministry requires Russia to implement the resolution of the IAEA Board of Governors. According to it, russia must immediately stop all actions against nuclear facilities in Ukraine and return control over all seized nuclear facilities to the Ukrainian side.
