UNICEF: two children die, and four get injured every day in Ukraine because of russia’s war

Since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 689 children have been injured due to russian armed aggression.

Rubryka reports, referring to the Telegram of the press service of the Office of Ukraine's Prosecutor General.

According to juvenile prosecutors, as of June 1, the official death toll was 243 and 446 injured.

However, the prosecutor's office emphasizes that these data aren't final, as work is underway to establish them in places of active hostilities, the temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

Most children fall victims to russia's war in these regions of Ukraine:

• Donetsk region–153,
• Kyiv region–116,
• Kharkiv region–111,
• Chernihiv region–68,
• Luhansk region–52,
• Kherson region–52,
• Mykolaiv region–47,
• Zaporizhzhia–29,
• Sumy region–17,
• Zhytomyr region–15,

There are 16 child victims in Kyiv.

"Nearly 100 days of the war in Ukraine have wrought devastating consequences for children at a scale and speed not seen since World War II," UNICEF said.

The International organization says, based on reports verified by OHCHR, on average more than two children are killed and more than four injured each day in Ukraine – mostly in attacks using explosive weapons in populated areas.

In addition, three million children in Ukraine and more than 2.2 million children in refugee-receiving countries are now in need of humanitarian assistance. Almost two of the three children were displaced because of hostilities.

UNICEF also emphasizes that the war has caused an acute crisis in child protection. Children who escape violence are at significant risk of being separated from their families, abused, sexually exploited, and trafficked.

At the same time, war and mass displacements are destroying sources of income and economic opportunities.

As a result, many families are left without sufficient income to meet their basic needs and cannot provide adequate support for their children.
