New US Ambassador to Ukraine visits Hostomel Airport

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink visited Hostomel Airport, where fierce fighting with Russian paratroopers took place in the first days of the war.

She announced this on her Twitter.

"My first trip outside Kyiv was to Hostomel airfield, where Ukrainian soldiers fought and won one of the first major battles in the war. My thoughts are in the Donbas, where the fight is critical right now," Bridget Brink wrote.

On May 30, it became known that Bridget Brink had arrived in Kyiv.

Before the US Senate unanimously approved her as US Ambassador to Ukraine on May 19, the United States had not had an Ambassador to Ukraine for three years.

The last Senate-approved ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Jovanovich, was ousted by then-President Donald Trump in 2019, seeking an investigation into his political rivals. This story led to Trump's first impeachment.

Bridget Brink has held several positions in the diplomatic corps, including as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the State Department's Bureau for Europe and Eurasia.

She speaks russian and has worked at US embassies in Serbia, Cyprus, Georgia, and Uzbekistan.
