T-62 on battlefield shows russia lacks modern combat-ready equipment, British intelligence says
russian ground forces continue to try to encircle Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, recently capturing several villages northwest of Popasna, but Ukrainian troops remain in control.
It is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense.
russia is putting pressure on the Sievierodonetsk pocket, although Ukraine retains control of several sectors it is defending, depriving russia of full control of Donbas, the report said.
As for the situation in the south of Ukraine, British intelligence notes that russia's southern grouping of forces probably still faces the task of occupying Ukraine's southern territory.
It is noted that in recent days, russia has brought 50-year-old T-62 tanks from deep storage to the area of responsibility of the Southern group.
"The T-62s will almost certainly be particularly vulnerable to anti-tank weapons, and their presence on the battlefield highlights Russia's shortage of modern combat-ready equipment," the statement said.
The day before, British intelligence stated that russia could not properly use its airborne troops in Ukraine, which led to significant losses in many elite units.
