WHO calls on russians to stop bombing Ukrainian hospitals

The World Health Organization has called on the russian military to stop destroying and bombing Ukrainian hospitals.

The WHO Assembly has adopted a resolution condemning russia's armed attack on Ukraine.

In a resolution, the organization called on russia to stop shelling hospitals and medical facilities in Ukraine.

The resolution,  put to the vote by Western countries, was approved by 88 countries, with 12 against and another 58 abstentions.

On May 18, russian foreign minister sergei lavrov formally appealed to the WHO leadership to pressure the Ukrainians to "stop resisting the goals of russia's special military operation."

Earlier, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus called for a ceasefire in Ukraine to begin the treatment of civilians.

Earlier in April, Ghebreyesus said that the world was unfairly paying too much attention to the horrors of the war in Ukraine, but said that because of racism it did not pay attention to similar horrors in Yemen, Sudan, and Syria, and many other countries.

In March, the WHO had already asked russia not to attack medical facilities in Ukraine.
