Biden: russia must pay a long-term price for barbarism in Ukraine
US President Joe Biden has said that russia must pay a long-term price for its barbarism in Ukraine with sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and its allies.
Biden made this statement at a press conference in Tokyo on Monday, the EP reports.
Biden says it's important that russian president vladimir putin "pay a dear price for his barbarism in Ukraine," lest China and other nations get the idea that such action is acceptable.
He said that if, after any future rapprochement between russia and Ukraine, "sanctions don't remain unchanged, what signal will it send China about the cost of trying to seize Taiwan by force?"
Biden also said the United States was ready for direct military intervention in the event of China's aggression against Taiwan.
He also said he didn't expect China's attempts to seize Taiwan, but he said that assessment "depends upon just how strong the world makes clear that that kind of action is going to result in long-term disapprobation by the rest of the community."
