Canada imposes new sanctions on russians

Canada is imposing sanctions on 14 russians, including russian oligarchs and their families, and is banning the export of luxury goods to russia because of its invasion of Ukraine.

This is stated in a statement issued by the Canadian Foreign Ministry on Friday, the EP reports.

The new sanctions impose restrictions on 14 people, including russian oligarchs, members of their families, and close allies of the putin regime.

These individuals directly contributed to vladimir putin's senseless war in Ukraine and are responsible for the pain and suffering of the people of Ukraine, the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the sanctions include a ban on the export of luxury items to russia, as well as a ban on the import of luxury items from russia.

These items include alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, some textiles and sportswear, footwear, luxury clothing and accessories, jewelry, tableware, and art objects.

Canada also bans the import of luxury items from russia, such as alcoholic beverages, seafood, fish, and non-industrial diamonds. These categories represented goods worth $75.7 million in 2021.

The Government of Canada is also banning the export of goods that can be used in the production and manufacture of weapons by russia.

"Taken together, these measures will help put further pressure on the russian regime to end its unprovoked and unwarranted invasion of Ukraine," the Canadian government said in a statement.
