Leader in medal standings: Ukraine wins 138 medals at Deaflympics

Ukraine's national team won 138 medals at the Summer Deaflympics (62 gold, 38 silver, and 38 bronze) and became the absolute winner.

"This is the best result in the history of our Deaflympian performances," the statement said.
The top three in the team event also included the United States with 55 awards and Iran with 40 medals. Only the United States was able to cross the 20-gold mark. At the same time, they won 55 gold medals, which is 83 less than Ukraine.
Ukraine's national team was represented by 170 athletes in 15 sports: badminton, basketball, wrestling, cycling, volleyball, judo, karate, bullseye shooting, athletics, swimming, beach volleyball, orienteering, table tennis, Taekwondo, and football.
Ukraine won the most awards in swimming (29) and athletics (20).
This year's results are absolutely record-breaking for Ukrainian Deaflympians, Suspilne writes. In particular, Ukraine set the following records for its performance at the 2021 Deaflympics:
- victory in the medal standings: for the second time in history (for the first time in 2005);
- won 100 or more medals for the first time (previous record – 99 awards);
- record number of "gold": 60 medals (previous record – 21 gold medals);
- won "gold" in men's basketball for the first time, and in men's football for the second time.

On the first day of the 2021 Olympics in Brazil, Ukrainian athletes won 9 medals, becoming the leader in the medal standings.
On the next day of the competition, the Ukrainian national team won 16 awards, 13 more medals on the third day, and 8 on the fourth day.
On the fifth day, the national team of Ukraine won 12 awards, and 6 medals on the sixth day.
The first week of the competition brought 77 medals to Ukrainian athletes. On the eighth day of the competition, Ukraine won 12 medals and won the medal in swimming, winning a total of 29 awards in this sport.
On the ninth day of the 2021 Olympics, the Ukrainians won 14 medals, allowing the team to cross the 100-mark mark for the first time in history.
On the tenth competitive day of the 2021 Deaflympics, Ukraine received 7 awards, won 6 awards and crossed the mark of 50 gold medals on the eleventh day.
Two days before the end of the competition, Ukraine was in the lead in the medal standings with 129 awards: 56 gold medals, 37 silver, and 36 bronze.
On a penultimate day, the Deaflympians won 8 more awards and completed the medal count with gold in football. In the final, the "blue-yellows" beat the French team 1-0 and became the winners of this tournament for the second time in history.
