Borrell is certain the EU will agree on russian oil embargo

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has expressed confidence that member states will agree on an oil embargo against russia despite Hungary's current opposition.

He stated this before the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven in Germany, European Pravda reports.

According to him, work on agreeing on the sixth package of sanctions continues.

"On Monday, the foreign ministers will consider this issue, and I will make a new political push for an agreement. I am convinced we will have an agreement. We need this agreement and we will have it. Because we need to get rid of oil dependence on russia," Borrell said.

"We need to understand the specific circumstances of each of the 27 member states. But if there is no agreement at ambassadorial level, ministers need to be given a political impetus on Monday. I will make an effort to do so," he added.

Note

Some European Union countries are allowing the oil embargo against russia to be lifted so as not to delay other measures under the sixth sanctions package unless Hungary can be persuaded to support it in its current form.
