Zelensky turns to Slovak deputies for help

President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Slovakia to provide Ukraine with aircraft to defend against russia's invasion

He said this during a speech in the Slovak parliament on Tuesday, Rubryka reports.

"I can say on behalf of all our people that Ukrainians will always remember how Slovakia gave our country at a crucial time what really helped us. And there is potential to continue this cooperation. In particular, in the field of aviation: about airplanes, about propellers," said Zelensky.

He also stressed that there was someone in Ukraine to protect its land, but in the air, "we need more support, including yours."

The President also called on Slovakia to support the sixth package of EU sanctions.

To recap, this package restricts the purchase of russian oil.

Britain has previously said it would support and assist Poland or other Central and Eastern European countries if they wanted to hand over their Soviet-style fighters to Ukraine.

MiG-29 aircraft are in service in Poland, Slovakia, and Bulgaria.

In April, partners handed over spare parts for aircraft to Ukraine, which allowed to increase the number of "working" devices, but the transfer of entire aircraft has not yet been discussed.

As reported by Rubryka, on May 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky addressed politicians and the people of Slovakia.

"Ukraine is at the epicenter of the confrontation of two ideas. The European democratic idea is that the freedom and life of every person matter.

But the cruel tyrannical idea that only a person who can subdue other people matters.

The first and foremost tool to win this confrontation is weapons.

And I can say on behalf of all our people that Ukrainians will always remember how Slovakia gave our country at a crucial time that really helped us.

And there is a potential to continue this cooperation," the President stressed.

As Rubryka previously reported, Biden signed a law on lend-lease for Ukraine, which was passed by the US Senate on April 6, and on April 28, by the House of Representatives.

The document allows the President of the United States to use the lend-lease program for the accelerated transfer of weapons, military equipment, medicines, food, etc. to Ukraine. It is assumed that the recipient country will pay their cost later.

The lend-lease program operated during World War II. It allowed the United States to provide weapons to its allies quickly.
