Ukraine's first president dies at 88

Today, May 10, 2022, at 5:00 pm Kyiv time, Leonid Kravchuk, the first president of independent Ukraine, passed away after a long illness.

This was reported to Ukrainian News by a source in the family circle.

As reported, on June 29, 2021, the first President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, missed a solemn meeting of the Rada on the occasion of Constitution Day because of heart surgery.

In June 2021, it became known that Leonid Kravchuk underwent open-heart surgery. After surgery, the head of the TCG was placed in intensive care and connected to a ventilator.

Also in June, the TCG stated that they would wait for doctors' forecasts and were not going to change the head of the contact group. In July, the media reported that Leonid Kravchuk has been in intensive care for a month.

At a solemn sitting of the Verkhovna Rada on the occasion of Independence Day in 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky wished Leonid Kravchuk recovery and good health.

On January 10, 2022, Leonid Kravchuk celebrated his 88th birthday.
