Baerbock: Germany insists on Ukraine's full membership in the EU
Germany insists on Ukraine's full membership in the European Union.
This was stated by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbok at a joint briefing with her Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.
"It is clear to me today that Ukraine is clearly part of Europe, so I understand a very convincing application for Ukraine's membership in the European Union, full membership… We insist on Ukraine's full membership in the European Union. We want to carry out in-depth reform in the European Union, and it will also be a lesson after this aggressive war," Baerbock said.
According to her, now is not the time to "consider the paragraphs"; the time has come to take a very clear position between war and peace.
"We will find a way for Ukraine's participation in the European Union, and we will confirm that Ukraine belongs to the European Union," the German minister stressed.
Note
Zelensky signed the application for Ukraine's membership in the European Union on February 28, 2022.
On April 18, President Volodymyr Zelensky handed over the first part of the questionnaire for Ukraine's EU candidate status to Matti Maasikas, Head of the European Union Delegation. This questionnaire was handed over to the Ukrainian side personally by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Kyiv on April 8.
On May 9, Ukraine submitted the second part of the questionnaire to obtain the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union.
