Ukraine loses $170 million every day due to port blockade

Every day, Ukraine loses $170 million because of blocked seaports, while 90 million tons of agricultural products are blocked inside the country.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated this during a working trip with European Council President Charles Michel.

He noted that currently almost 70 vessels were blocked in the seaports of Ukraine, in particular, 10 of them are idle in the port of Odesa. The vast majority of ships are bulk carriers and general cargo vessels.

"90 million tons of agricultural products that Ukraine planned to supply to Africa, Asia, and Europe have been blocked," Shmyhal said. Some of the supplies were removed by truck and rail, while others "are under fire or captured by the russian military."

The Ukrainian prime minister stressed that Ukraine was losing $170 million a day because of blocked ports, and the country's export potential had fallen by more than half. This has already led to higher prices for agricultural products on world markets.

The EU leader stressed that russia bore all the responsibility for the "potentially dramatic situation" for many countries around the world. He confirmed that the EU would do everything possible to solve the problem of food catastrophe in the world.
