Almost 500 civilians evacuated out of Mariupol and Azovstal
Almost 500 Ukrainians were evacuated from Mariupol and Azovstal.
The Head of the Office of the President, Andrii Yermak announced this on Telegram and UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Twitter.
"We have carried out another stage of a difficult operation to evacuate people from Mariupol and Azovstal. I can say that we managed to evacuate almost 500 civilians. Ukraine will continue to do everything to save all civilians and the military. Thank you for the UN assistance," Yermak said.
"In a joint UN and ICRC operation, 2 safe passage convoys successfully evacuated nearly 500 people from the Azovstal plant, Mariupol & surrounding areas. I hope that continued coordination with Moscow & Kyiv will lead to more humanitarian pauses to allow civilians safe passage," Guterres said.
On the evening of May 5, Guterres said that the third stage of the evacuation of civilians had begun on the territory of the Azovstal plant.
