The EU's oil embargo against russia is being discussed among measures for this package of sanctions. This was previously reported by the head of the European Commission.
Ursula von der Leyen also said that the sanctions package could include restrictive measures against russia's Sberbank.
However, according to her, the bloc is not considering a simple ban on oil exports to European countries, because it will lead to shortages and rising market prices for oil and ultimately strengthen putin. Therefore, special mechanisms are being developed for sanctions against this area.
The abandonment of russian oil could be a particular challenge for Hungary, Slovakia, and Bulgaria, which buy the resource mainly from russia.
In general, russian oil accounts for 25% of the EU's oil imports, while gas is 40%.
