French President Emmanuel Macron says he supports an embargo on russian energy

He stated this on France 5 TV channel.

The French leader also stressed that France did not need russian gas.

According to him, France intends to tighten sanctions on russian gas because it does not need it.

However, Macron stressed that the European market was interconnected, so Europe is generally dependent on russian gas.

To recap, on Tuesday, April 19, the President of France is to discuss with the President of the United States and European leaders the strengthening of sanctions against russia.

Note.

As Rubryka reported, in the 5th package of sanctions, the EU banned the import of russian coal from August 2022.

The European Union has also closed its ports and roads to russian ships and trucks. But the ban will not apply to certain categories of goods.

The Ukrainian government insists that the next step should be an embargo on oil from russia. A number of European countries have already expressed their readiness for this, but not all.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said his country will be able to stop importing russian oil "this year." But Germany will need more time to give up russian gas.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently said that the next package of EU sanctions would apply to russia's largest bank, Sberbank, and oil supplies.
