russia has threatened the United States with "unpredictable consequences" for helping Ukraine with weapons
russia sent an official diplomatic note to the United States this week warning that US and NATO supplies of "most sensitive" weapons systems to Ukraine "add fuel to the controversy" of the conflict and could lead to "unpredictable consequences."
The Washington Post reported this with reference to a copy of the document.
The diplomatic note was dated Tuesday, April 12, when information about a new arms package leaked for the first time, bringing the total amount of US military aid provided to Ukraine after the February 24 invasion to $3.2 billion.
On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden said the aid package would include new opportunities adapted to russia's wider offensive in eastern Ukraine.
The document "On Russia's concern over the massive supply of weapons and military equipment to the Kyiv regime, written on 2 pages in russian with a translation, was sent to the State Department by the russian embassy in Washington.
The russian embassy did not comment. The US State Department also does not comment.
Among the items identified by russia as "most sensitive" were "multiple rocket launchers," although it is believed that the United States and its NATO allies did not supply these weapons to Ukraine.
russia has accused the Allies of violating "strict principles" of transferring weapons to conflict zones and of ignoring "the threat of high-precision weapons falling into the hands of radical nationalists, extremists, and gangs in Ukraine."
According to russia, NATO countries are putting pressure on Ukraine to "refuse" to negotiate with russia, which did not yield results in a month and a half.
russian diplomats are also convinced that Washington is putting pressure on other countries to suspend all military and technical cooperation with russia, and on those with Soviet-era weapons to hand them over to Ukraine.
