MEPs approved a resolution calling for a full embargo on Russian imports of oil, coal, nuclear fuel, and gas

This was reported by the press service of the European Parliament, the EP writes.

According to the document, the Parliament expressed outrage over reports of atrocities by the russian armed forces in Bucha and other Ukrainian cities.

The deputies also stressed that those guilty of war crimes should be brought to justice and called for the establishment of a special UN tribunal for crimes in Ukraine.

In a resolution approved by 513 votes to 22 on Thursday, MEPs called for additional sanctions, including an "immediate full embargo on Russia's imports of oil, coal, nuclear fuel and gas."

In addition, MEPs note that this step should be accompanied by a plan to ensure the security of the energy supply to the EU.

As well as the strategy of "lifting sanctions if russia takes steps to restore Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. And completely withdraw its troops from Ukraine."

In particular, MEPs call on EU leaders to exclude russia from the G20 and a number of other multilateral organizations.

These are the UN Human Rights Council, Interpol, the World Trade Organization, UNESCO, and others, "which would be an important sign that the international community will not return to normal business with the aggressor state."

Parliament calls for the exclusion of all Russian banks from the SWIFT system, a ban on all Russian-related vessels from entering EU territorial waters and mooring in EU ports.

And also to carry out automobile freight transportations with russia and belarus.

MEPs are also demanding the arrest of "all assets belonging to russian officials or oligarchs linked to the putin regime. As well as their proxies and fictitious persons, as well as assets in belarus, linked to the Lukashenko regime."

Pointing to belarus' participation in the war in Ukraine, the resolution calls for sanctions against belarus to be the same as those imposed on russia.

This is needed to close any loopholes that allow putin to use lukashenko's aid to circumvent sanctions.

Parliament repeats that arms supplies must continue and increase so that Ukraine can defend itself effectively.

MEPs support further defense assistance provided to the Ukrainian armed forces individually by EU member states and collectively through the European Peace Fund.
