We don’t need new Thermopiles, save Mariupol, Zelenskyy urged Greek parliamentarians

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Greece to prevent the destruction of Mariupol

Zelenskyy stated this during a speech in the Greek parliament, Rubryka reports.

In his speech, Zelenskyy recalled the historical ties between Ukraine and Greece and called for immediate assistance to Mariupol.

"The city needs humanitarian aid! The city needs saving people from there: survivors and wounded. Russia has been blocking Mariupol since the beginning of March, blocking it on land and at sea.

They do not allow even basic humanitarian cargoes to pass there. I am convinced that the strength of Greece can help carry out this mission. The bill is at the bottom," Zelenskyy said.

The head of state asked Greece to use its influence and opportunities as a member of the European Union to help save Mariupol and its defenders from russian aggression.

"They will destroy all our common history, our common heritage. And we will not be satisfied with what we say in the future about Mariupol: 'These are the new Thermopiles.'

When the heroes died, stopping a large enemy army. Now we can save our heroes," he said.

Zelenskyy called for cutting off all Russian banks from the global financial system, and closing ports for russian ships.

The President called for providing Ukraine with weapons to force russian troops to leave our country.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias has said Athens will ask the International Court of Justice in The Hague to investigate war crimes in besieged Mariupol.
