European Parliament's President Metsola: Ukraine's application for EU membership can be considered in a short time
The time frame for considering Ukraine's application for membership in the European Union will be much shorter if the Ukrainian side promptly provides answers to the European Commission's questionnaire
This was stated by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
"I have seen so many EU flags in Kyiv… It is a moment for us to open our arms. I spoke with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv that they are waiting for a list of questions to come today or tomorrow," Metsola said.
According to the President of the European Parliament, the Ukrainian side will be able to answer questions in four days.
"Of course, then the ball is on our side again, and here the European Parliament comes into play. We will do everything to ensure that every step is taken.
I think that if Ukrainians give us answers very quickly, the time frame will also be narrower than in other situations," Metsola explained.
To recap, this week the European Commission plans to submit a questionnaire to Ukraine, which is a necessary step for Ukraine to gain candidate status.
Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said that the government had been preparing draft responses to the expected questionnaire for the past two weeks, so it was ready to respond officially in a very short time.
