Russia is threatening Finland because of their intention to join NATO

Vladimir Dzabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the International Committee of the russian federation Council, threatens that Finland's accession to NATO would make it a target for russia's retaliatory measures.

This was reported by the russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

According to Dzabarov, if Finland joins NATO, Russia will respond immediately.

"Finland's accession to NATO would make it a target for Russian retaliation," the Russian senator said.

Note

Amid the war in Ukraine, support for Finland's membership has risen sharply, and a task force led by the foreign minister is exploring ways to strengthen national security, including possible NATO membership.

The Prime Minister of Finland, Sanna Marin, said that any decision on the country's membership in NATO should be made quickly and preferably this spring.

On 28 March, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto discussed with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg the "principles and procedures" for admitting new members to the Alliance.
