French supermarket chain Auchan cutting off investment and supplies to Russia

Auchan, a French supermarket chain, isolates its Russian office and suspends investment and supplies to Russia

This was announced in the Ukrainian office of the company, Rubryka reports.

According to the company, the Auchan supermarket chain has stopped investing and supplying in Russia and is isolating the Russian office.

This decision was made under pressure from the company's Ukrainian office.

"We have finally managed to get the company to stop investing and supplying in Russia. This is only the first step, but we are determined to continue fighting," Auchan Ukraine said in a statement.

Auchan's Ukrainian office explained what these measures will mean for Russia:

  • No new stores will open.
  • Existing stores will not be repaired.
  • IT technologies and projects will not be supported.
  • Key software, such as cash, logistics, commercial, etc., will not be updated.
  • Imported goods up to 90% of the range of clothing, footwear, household goods, textiles, etc. will not be delivered.

"Stores in Russia are already unprofitable. The above-mentioned sanctions will lead to a catastrophic drop in trade and taxes and a high probability of bankruptcy," said Auchan's Ukrainian office.

As Rubryka previously reported, on March 27, the Auchan network announced that it would continue to work in Russia because it "acts in the interests of the civilian population."

This was announced by Auchan CEO Yves Claude.

This was Claude's response to the call of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to French companies to leave the Russian market.

According to the CEO of Auchan, at this time "it is pointless to incite people against each other," so the chain of stores will continue to fulfill its main mission and "feed the people of the two countries, bake fresh bread for Ukrainians and Russians, which is vital."
