Australia will send armored vehicles to Ukraine, including its Bushmaster transporters
Australia will send locally made armored vehicles to Ukraine at the request of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
This was announced by the Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison, CNN reports.
"We don't just send our prayers, we send our weapons, we send our ammunition, we send our humanitarian aid, we send all this and the bulletproof vests. We will send our armored vehicles, including our Bushmaster transporter. And we will send them there on our C-17 planes," he said.
Morrison did not say when or how many vehicles known as Bushmaster will be shipped to Ukraine.
The day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the Australian Parliament via video and, in particular, called for the provision of armored vehicles to resist Russia.
"We must keep those who are fighting this evil armed. You have a very good armed machine, the Bushmaster, which could significantly help Ukraine, and other equipment that could strengthen our position in terms of armaments. If you have the opportunity to share, we will be very grateful for this," Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president also called on Australia for further sanctions against Russia.
Australia has previously provided military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, as well as a ban on alumina and aluminum ore exports to Russia. According to the Australian government, Russia relies on Australia to meet almost 20% of its alumina needs.
