Russian occupiers robbed Kateryna Handziuk's apartment in Kherson

Russian aggressors robbed the Kherson apartment of activist Kateryna Handziuk, who died in 2018.

Community "Who ordered a hit on Katia Handzyuk?" reports on Facebook.

"The Russian fascists robbed and damaged Katia Handziuk's apartment in Kherson. They broke down the door 'in the name of the Russian Federation' and said that this apartment was an object that threatened 'Russian statehood.' Apparently, their 'statehood' was threatened by Katia's personal belongings, her books, and the room she had not visited for almost four years. 'Russian statehood' was most threatened by valuables from Katia's apartment: jewelry, appliances, furniture and food," the statement said.

The community said they understood why the invaders were fighting Handziuk, who died more than three years ago. "For little Kherson, who is now fighting against the Russian occupation, Katia was and is a symbol of the struggle for truth, national values and justice. Russia needs to destroy all symbols, show its supremacy, show that power means more than justice. But robbing the apartment where Katia lived and where her single father now lives is not about force. It is about the despair of the Russians, their fear of the Ukrainian Kherson and the brave citizens," the statement said.

"Twelve gunmen came in, neighbors began to say that no one was home, but they still started breaking down the door, saying it was an 'object that threatens Russian statehood,'" said Kateryna's father, Viktor Handziuk.

The search of the apartment lasted more than three hours. Witnesses said that several bags of belongings were taken out of the apartment.

To recap, the public activist, acting Head of the Executive Committee of the Kherson City Council Kateryna Handziuk, was doused with sulfuric acid near the entrance to her house in Kherson on July 31, 2018. 40% of the woman's body was affected by burns. She underwent several surgeries but died on November 4 of that year.

On June 6, 2019, five direct perpetrators of the attack were sentenced to 3 to 6.5 years in prison.

In July 2020, the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against the Head of the Kherson regional council Vladislav Manger, and the ex-deputy of the Kherson regional council Oleksii Levin for organizing the attack on Handziuk.
