China isn't ready to support Russia's exclusion from the Group of Twenty in response to its war against Ukraine.

According to Reuters, this was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

He noted that the G20 needed to continue to work together to address common challenges, including economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, and that Russia is an "important member" of the group.

"No member has the right to exclude another country. The G20 must introduce true multi-vectorism, strengthen unity and cooperation," he said.

The United States and its Western allies are assessing whether Russia should remain in the Group of 20 (G20) after its invasion of Ukraine.

The G20, together with the smaller Group of Seven, which includes only the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom, is a key international platform for policy coordination in all areas from climate change to cross-border debt.

On Tuesday, Poland said it had invited US trade officials to replace Russia in the G20 and that the proposal had received a "positive response."

However, a source in the G7 said it was unlikely that Indonesia, which currently leads the G20, or members such as India, Brazil, South Africa, and China, had agreed to remove Russia from the group.
