Paris city hall for the first time awarded "honorary citizen" status to another city, Kyiv
Paris City Hall unanimously voted to grant Kyiv "honorary citizenship" to Kyiv's capital
According to the EP, the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo announced this on March 22.
For the first time in France, this status was granted to the city.
"With this award, which is being awarded to the city for the first time, Paris expresses its friendship and support for the Ukrainian capital, which is fighting for its freedom," she wrote.
To recap, several cities in Europe have already resorted to renaming streets or other steps to express support for Ukraine.
In Riga, the section of Antonias Street between Kalpak Boulevard and Mykola Roerich Street will now be called Ukrainas neatkarības iela (Independence of Ukraine Street).
The Czech city of Plzen renamed one of the central streets to Ukrainska (Ukrainian Street).
The city also transferred one million Czech crowns (about 39 thousand euros) to help the Armed Forces.
In Prague, activists "renamed" Ruská Street, adding a few words to the famous message of Ukrainian border guards to the Russian ship.
