The EU intends to increase military aid to Ukraine to 1 billion euros – Baerbock

According to the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock, the EU plans to increase financial assistance to Ukraine for the purchase of weapons to one billion euros.

Baerbock said this when she arrived at a meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers in Brussels on Monday, the EP reports.

According to Baerbock, the ministers will make a political decision on the allocation of additional financial assistance on Monday.

The German government will ensure the rapid implementation of orders for weapons from German companies, the minister added.

Baerbock noted that the details of the timing and specific types of weapons would not be disclosed for security reasons, in particular, due to threats by Russia to bomb Western arms supplies to Ukraine.

"You can't talk about it in public because it's a matter of life and death," she said.

Earlier, the European Union said it planned to agree on an additional 500 million euros in military assistance to Ukraine in the near future.

The first tranche of 500 million euros for the provision of lethal weapons and ammunition to the Armed Forces of the EU was allocated in late February. The funds were allocated under the European Peace Facility, the first such decision in the history of the European Union.
