Russian court bans Instagram and Facebook for "extremism"

The Tver court in Moscow recognized the activities of the social media Instagram and Facebook as extremist and banned them in Russia.

Espreso reported this with reference to the Russian media.

"The court satisfies the claims of the Prosecutor General's Office to ban Meta," said Judge Olga Solopova.

According to her, the decision on the ban takes effect immediately.

From now on, Meta (owner of Instagram and Facebook) is banned from opening branches and doing business in Russia.

The decision doesn't apply to WhatsApp messenger.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia has decided to block Facebook.
