Podoliak: Ukraine is forming a new alliance because NATO has no power to stop Putin
NATO has no power to stop Vladimir Putin, so Ukraine wants to create a new alliance to end the war.
Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podoliak stated this in an interview with WP Wiadomości.
Podoliak answered the question that Ukraine was ready to give up its desire to join NATO, but at the same time, it wanted to create its own alliance.
"The problem is of another kind. What matters to us is not status, but allies who are really ready to fight on our side. The invasion of Ukraine has shown that the entire European security architecture needs to be tested. We know that Putin can only be stopped by force. NATO doesn't have that power today. In our opinion, today it is an organization whose activities were mostly limited to holding summits at which generals pulled menacing faces," Mykhailo Podoliak said.
According to him, "the truth is that the largest military alliance in human history does not impress the Kremlin."
"All this talk of NATO's approaching to Russia's borders is just cunning, Russian propaganda in the domestic market to justify their attack on Ukraine and other countries. That's why we want to end this war by creating a new alliance strong enough to stop Russia. if it wants to attack someone again," said an adviser to the head of the Office of the President.
Podoliak said that this time it would be an agreement not like the Budapest Memorandum, but "a concrete agreement that complies with all norms of international law."
"It will describe step by step the mechanisms that will be launched in the event of another attack on Ukraine. We want to make sure that we are no longer left alone on the battlefield. The states that will act as guarantors, including Russia itself, will make specific commitments. In the future, this document can be expanded and a new alliance will be created on its basis, which will ensure the security of the whole of Europe," Mykhailo Podoliak said.
He did not name the countries that have already agreed to join the new agreement, "because negotiations are still ongoing."
"When they are over, President Zelenskyy will present the whole concept," he said.
Podoliak noted that this topic was one of the key ones for discussion during the visit of the Prime Ministers of Poland, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic to Kyiv.
