Occupiers will be held accountable for all war crimes against Ukrainians: they will face International Tribunal – President of Ukraine

Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague Karim Khan and the investigative team of the International Criminal Court arrived in Ukraine to gather evidence of war crimes of the Russian Federation

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about this in a video address on March 16.

"We are stepping up work to bring the occupiers to justice. There must be an International Tribunal. and it will be. For everything, they have done against Ukraine, against our people, for every act of terrorism by Russian troops in our country. Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, law enforcement has started this work.

It is also important to start the work of the investigative team of the International Criminal Court in Ukraine, which, together with our law enforcement officers, is already collecting all the evidence. Already collecting facts of war crimes of the invaders in our country. That they received the legal answer, legal and concrete.

I spoke today with the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague Karim Khan. He is already in Ukraine, he has already started working. Therefore, the occupiers will be held accountable for all war crimes against Ukrainians," the president stressed.

To recap, Russia, led by Putin, launched a full-scale war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022, after 8 years of hybrid war and occupation of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk.

On February 28, Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, decided to launch an investigation into Russia's war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.

He noted that Ukraine was not a member of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, so she cannot complain to his office.

Khan expressed confidence that the Russians had committed both war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.
