Occupiers again damaged the line to Chornobyl nuclear power plant, repaired yesterday
The occupiers again damaged the line to the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which was repaired yesterday by Ukrenergo specialists.
This was reported by the press service of Energoatom.
Emergency crews are forced to go to the danger zone again and repair the damage, the company said.
"At 19:07 on March 13, the line was put under voltage and the power supply of the Chornobyl infrastructure and the city of Slavutych was restored. However, these works could not be completed because the occupiers soon damaged the line again," Ukrenergo said.
Reliable power supply to the Chornobyl nuclear power plant is critical from the point of view of nuclear safety.
"The line that feeds the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and the town of Slavutych was again damaged by the occupiers after the Ukrenergo repair crew had repaired it," Ukrenergo said.
"Yesterday, March 13, the Ukrenergo repair crew repaired the high-voltage transmission line that supplies the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and the city of Slavutych.
However, these works could not be completed because the occupiers soon damaged the line again. The repair team of Ukrenergo is forced to go again to the occupied territory near the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, to look for and eliminate new damage," the company added.
Ukrenergo emphasizes that the Chornobyl NPP is an important facility that cannot be left without a reliable energy supply. The power supply of Slavutych residents also depends on the power lines of the nuclear power plant.
Therefore, unimpeded and quick access of Ukrenergo repair crews to this line for inspections and repairs is extremely important not only for Ukrainian consumers but also for Europe as a whole. After all, this will help avoid a second catastrophe at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and save the lives and health of people who may be its victims," Ukrenergo said.
"Even after the successful repair and resumption of power supply at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, new cases of damage to power lines due to enemy shelling and fires are not ruled out.
The Chornobyl personnel, who have not been rotated since the beginning of the military aggression, are psychologically and physically exhausted and cannot provide quality maintenance to the station.
The only guarantee of the Chornobyl security is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the station," the Ministry of Energy added.
