British government imposes sanctions on Abramovich, Deripaska, and five other oligarchs

The British government has imposed sanctions on seven Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich, Oleg Deripaska, and Gazprom chair Aleksei Miller

This is stated in a press release from the government, Rubryka reports.

According to the post, "From now on, Abramovich's assets will be frozen in the country, he will be banned from conducting transactions with individuals and enterprises of Great Britain. In addition, the Russian oligarch will be banned from entering the country," the statement said.

Besides Abramovich, six other oligarchs were under sanctions:

  • Oleg Deripaska, the shareholder of En + Group.
  • Igor Sechin, Executive Director of Rosneft
  • Andrey Kostin, chair of the Board of Directors of VTB Bank
  • Aleksei Miller, CEO of Gazprom
  • Nikolay Tokarev, President of the Russian state company Transneft
  • Dmitry Lebedev, chair of the Board of Directors of the Rossiya.

"There can be no safe havens for those who have supported Putin's vicious assault on Ukraine. Today's sanctions are the latest step in the UK's unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals, and illegal occupation of sovereign allies," said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
