Macron calls Putin's demands on Ukraine unacceptable

French President Emmanuel Macron called the demands of Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine unacceptable.

He stated this before the summit of EU leaders in Versailles EP reports.

"I have to be a realist. We are constantly involved in negotiations with President Putin. Until the last minutes before the war, and after he declares war, we are trying to negotiate and achieve a ceasefire. But I must admit that the conditions put forward by Putin are unacceptable to anyone, "Macron said.

According to him, today the question is whether Putin is ready in principle to hold open talks and offer something.

"But today I look at the facts, and the facts are as follows: Russia has decided to start a war, Russia is bombing Ukraine, Russia is bombing civilians and negotiating in parallel. But these talks are not leading to anything. To be honest, I do not see a ceasefire in the coming hours," the French leader added.

At the same time, Macron considers it unrealistic to negotiate EU membership with a country at war.

Earlier it was reported that the leaders of the European Union at the summit in Paris will discuss further pressure on Russia to force it to stop the war in Ukraine.

According to media reports, EU leaders are set to promise support for Ukraine at an informal summit on Thursday but are unlikely to offer Ukraine accelerated EU membership.
