Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, close to the Russian president, will meet with Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday.
This was reported to Politico by sources.
The publication does not provide other details of the meeting but only notes that it will take place as part of efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, a personal friend of the Russian president, has previously criticized Putin's war in Ukraine, but said: "both sides made mistakes."
He said NATO had expanded too far east since the end of the Cold War, provoking the Kremlin.
To date, despite numerous appeals in Germany and the ruling Social Democratic Party, to which the politician belongs, Schroeder has not distanced himself from Russia's actions in Ukraine.
The SPD is demanding that he resign from high-paying positions in Russia's energy companies.
It was reported that staff began to resign from Schroeder's office in Germany.
In addition, he was deprived of honorary membership in the Borussia football club.
