Energoatom reports how long the Chornobyl nuclear power plant will last without electricity

Maintenance of sufficient cold temperature at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant can be carried out for about seven days

The head of Energoatom Petro Kotin stated this in an interview with the EP.

This is provided that the fuel in the diesel generator runs out and there is no power supply.

"The operation of the storage calls for force majeure. Now everything will depend on the ambient temperature. It is quite cool now and in such conditions, the cooling can work for about seven days without serious consequences," said Kotin.

According to him, currently, there is enough fuel for 10 days:

  • three days – for nuclear power units,
  • seven more days – in addition to eliminating power outages.

At the same time, Kotin clarified that diesel generators are now operating normally, and the threat is being removed.
